The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Bassam Ibrahim discussed with the Assistant of the Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Dadashpour, and the Assistant of the Iranian Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, Dr. Abolfazl Bagheri Fard, ways to strengthen joint cooperation relations in the fields of higher education and health.
During a discussion session held today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the two sides agreed to form joint committees to follow up on activating the executive program of the memorandums of understanding signed between the two sides, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research, and concluding direct twinning agreements in accordance with the regulations in force with regard to the exchange of scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate studies “Master’s and PhD”.
The talks also dealt with organizing joint visits for students and university professors to participate in scientific and cultural activities and training courses in Iran, especially for students and professors of Persian language departments in Syrian universities.
The two sides discussed means of developing cooperation in the medical field, conducting joint scientific research, exchanging information, experiences and training in various advanced medical and pharmaceutical specialties, biomedical sciences, stem cells, laser technologies, liver transplantation and others.
Minister Ibrahim noted the distinguished scientific and strategic relations between Syria and Iran and the multiple scientific, cultural and research cooperation programs between the two sides.
He pointed to the importance of benefiting from the Iranian expertise in modern technical fields and the possibility of establishing scientific and technology incubators and joint supervision of postgraduate research, which contributes to strengthening scientific cooperation.
For his part, the Iranian Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology affirmed full readiness to enhance scientific and research cooperation between Iranian and Syrian universities.
He pointed to the importance of working to increase the number of scholarships for the Syrian side, establishing joint research projects and cooperation in other specializations.
In turn, the Iranian Deputy Minister of Health pointed to the ministry’s keenness and commitment to implementing all that was stated in the executive program of the joint memorandums of understanding and to work to provide all facilities for Syrian students studying medicine in Iran.
