Damascus, (ST) – The Prime Minister Hussein Arnous met on Wednesday with the Chairman of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) Muhammad bin Obaid Al Mazrouei and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting focused on mechanisms of joint action and prospects for future cooperation between the Syrian government and the AAAID to establish joint projects in the agricultural sector in a number of governorates.
Cooperation in using the results of scientific research and advanced technologies to increase the production of all crops in the cultivated area was also discussed during the meeting.
Arnous said that agricultural investment is very necessary for the growth of various sectors, and it is one of the most important factors for achieving sustainable, balanced and comprehensive development.
Arnous stressed the importance of joint agricultural investment among the Arab countries to reach Arab agricultural integration and achieve self-sufficiency and food security for the Arab peoples.
The Prime Minister affirmed the availability of the appropriate ground and the advantages required for agricultural investment in Syria. He added that the Syrian government is ready to cooperate and provide all support and assistance to the Authority wit the aim of carrying out investment projects in Syria that contribute to securing part of the local market’s need and exporting the surplus.
For his part, Al-Mazrouei explained that the Authority is working to invest the available capabilities in the Arab countries to meet the growing demand for food and to enhance the mechanism of Arab agricultural marketing and trade exchange.
He expressed the desire to increase the Authority’s investments in Syria in cooperation with government institutions, and to carry out new projects in the agricultural field.
