Syrian community in Bulgaria, Bulgarian citizens stand in solidarity with Syria after the devastating earthquake

The Syrian students and members of the Syrian community in Bulgaria have stressed their willingness to provide assistance to the people affected by the earthquake that struck Syria last February.

The participants affirmed their solidarity with their homeland and vowed to do their utmost to help Syria overcome the repercussions of the earthquake and to send all possible aid to the affected people.

The stand was organized by the Bulgaria branch of the National Union of Syrian Students in cooperation with the Syrian community and in coordination of the Syrian Embassy in Sofia. A number of Bulgarian citizens as well as some members of the Arab communities in Sofia took part in the stand.

The participants lit candles and observed a minute of silence in respect for the souls of the earthquake victims. They also performed the Syrian national anthem, wishing speedy recovery for the injured and expressing hope that safety and stability will be restored to Syria soon.

In a statement during the stand, the Charge d’ Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Sofia Oras Mahmoud highly appreciated the cooperation and solidarity showed by all segments of the Bulgarian society as well as the Syrian expatriates in Bulgaria towards Syria through collecting, preparing and sending humanitarian aid to quake-affected people. She noted the important role played by the Syrian expatriates in all countries of the world to provide assistance to their homeland in the current ordeal.
