Syrian-Chinese Business Council discusses developing trade exchange and economic cooperation

Damascus countryside, (ST) – The Syrian-Chinese Business Council discussed during a meeting yesterday means of developing trade exchange and economic cooperation between the two countries, and work to upgrade this cooperation to the level of political relations.

In a press statement, Chairman of the Council Muhammad Hamsho affirmed that the Council’s role is to strengthen economic relations between Syria and China.

“The Council’s role also is to increase the volume of trade exchange, and encourage Syrian products to enter Chinese markets by developing a plan and work mechanism for Syrian exports”, Hamsho added.

Regarding the obstacles and difficulties facing Syrian exports to China, Hamsho pointed out that the most imortant are transportation and money transfer operations due to unilateral coercive measures. He indicated that this meeting was to discuss these obstacles and develop an action plan by the government and the Chinese embassy in Damascus.

Among the most prominent proposals that were put forward during the meeting was the establishment of a joint Syrian-Chinese office through businessmen, which would solve money transfer problems and seek to sign memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the two sides on foodstuffs that can be exported, which would contribute to increasing exports and flexibility in the export mechanism.

The work to promote the Syrian product in China, and encourage some industries such as soap, bay leaf, and important agricultural products produced in Syria, such as olive oil and olives are also proposals were put forward during the meeting.
