Lattakia (ST) – The Governor of Lattakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, discussed with the Brazilian ambassador to Syria, André Luiz Azevedo dos Santos, the repercussions of the earthquake that struck Syria last February and the challenges that the province is facing to overcome them.

Ambassador dos Santos stressed his country’s desire to know the priority needs within the government response plan to face the repercussions of the earthquake to alleviate the suffering of those affected, especially the children.

For his part, Hilal referred to the extent of the damage  caused by the earthquake, the initial response in the relief field, the work plan related to securing alternative housing for those affected, and the procedures for demolishing damaged buildings that are about to fall. He pointed to the difficulties that accompanied the response process due to the lack of medical equipment, medicines, and civil defense and rescue equipment as a result of the unjust siege imposed on Syria.

Hilal expressed his gratitude to Brazil for supporting Syria, and any initiative that could contribute to alleviating the suffering of those affected and reflect positively on the relief work.
