The Syrian youth football team won the West Asian Championship title after defeating its Saudi counterpart in the final on penalties 10-9 after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
The Syrian national team lineup included: Hani Ismail, Mahmoud Al-Hassan, Bilal Mosli, Nour El-Din Ahmed, Khader Al-Saloum, Abdul Malik Naqar, Abdul Rahman Al-Sarraj, Mahmoud Khani, Abdul Rahman Dinawi, Bashar Al-Hariri and Ahmed Khalaf.
The team qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament after defeating the Bahraini national team by two goals to one and after tying with its Palestinian counterpart by one goal each to top its group in the first round and win in the semi-finals against Jordan on penalties.
Nine teams participated in the tournament, divided into three groups, with the Syrian national team coming in the third group alongside Bahrain and Palestine.
The tournament system stipulates that the first team qualifies directly to the semi-finals in addition to the best second from the three groups at the end of the first round.
