Syria, WHO discuss cooperation in the field of providing quality medical equipment and supporting healthcare services in Syria

Health Minister Hasan Al- Ghabbash and Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus on Friday discussed enhancing cooperation in terms of providing quality medical equipment and supporting the development of healthcare services. The discussions were held on the sidelines of the 153rd session of WHO Executive Council in Geneva.

The minister clarified the difficulties that have been facing Syria facing Syria due to the terrorist war and unilateral coercive measures that have affected vital economic and service sectors, including health. He highly appreciated the support provided by the WHO to Syria, particularly after the earthquake.

Al-Ghabbash talked about the health conditions in the occupied Syrian Golan and explained the suffering of the people there from the occupation violations and discrimination that prevent them from their basic rights, including their right in health, urging the WHO to assume its responsibilities in monitoring the Israeli violations in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.

For his part, Ghebreyesus stressed the WHO’s keenness on following up on the health situation in the occupied Arab territories in the light of its mandate and relevant resolutions, appreciating the Syrian government’s efforts to confront Covid-19 pandemic. He also hailed the efforts exerted by the Syrian medical and healthcare staff during the earthquake crisis.
