Syria Trust for Development distributes 8,300 olive seedlings in Lattakia countryside to expand olive cultivation

Lattakia, (ST) – With the aim of restoring life to the agricultural lands that were damaged by the fires that broke out in 2020 in Lattakia Governorate, and expanding olive cultivation as a strategic crop, the Syria Trust for Development, in cooperation with the Farmers’ Union and the Lattakia Agriculture Directorate, distributed 8,300 olive seedlings to Yarta Village Cooperative.

The Syria Trust for Development said on its Facebook page that this step is the first stage of the cooperative’s work, which was established last year, comprises beside Yarta two other villages, namely “Beit Suhin, Al-Jubairiyah, and Dabash.

The cooperative works to improve olive production and produce an abundant and sustainable crop that helps transform farmers into producers and strengthens the community’s economy.

The secretariat stressed that the cooperatives contribute to unifying and organizing the efforts of people in areas that rely on one type of agriculture and to investing in the resources of their communities with the aim of improving the quality of their crops and overcoming the difficulties facing the sustainability of these crops’ cultivation.
