Syria takes part in the Media and Information Literacy and Global Understanding conference in Cairo

Cairo (ST) – With the participation of Syria, the “Media and Information Literacy and Global Understanding: Peace for All” conference kicked off today in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmad Aboul Gheit, said in a speech during the conference: “Media and information culture can be the basis for achieving world peace and promoting understanding and tolerance among peoples.”

In turn, the Pope of Alexandria, Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, Pope Tawadros II, said: Communication between peoples has become faster and easier, and therefore no single party is responsible for the media, but it is the responsibility of all of us.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Duwaini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar, stressed in his speech on behalf of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, that the culture of tolerance is an essential part of the heavenly religions, and that peace is necessary for the stability of peoples and the advancement of societies.

The conference was attended by Syria’s permanent representative to the League of Arab States and head of its diplomatic mission in Egypt, Ambassador Hussam El-Din Ala.
