Syria expresses deep regret following the air strikes directed by the Jordanian Air Force on several villages and areas inside the Syrian territory, the most recent of which was the targeting of villages in the southern countryside of al-Suwaydaa governorate, killing a number of civilians, including children, women, and wounding others.

Such strikes at Syrian territories can’t be justified, the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement, underscoring that the country attempts to contain the situation within its keenness not to cause the tension between the two countries.

The political, media and military escalation Syria has witnessed during the recent months are not consistent with the agreements been reached upon between the Syrian-Jordanian committees set for cooperation in combating smuggling and drugs, the Ministry went on to say.

“Foreign and Defense ministries along with Security officials in Syria sent messages to their Jordanian counterparts, suggesting taking practical and effective steps for controlling the joint borders, and voicing Syria’s readiness to cooperate with the Jordanian Security institutions, but no response was received”, the statement read.

“Syria confirms again that it is firm in combating terrorism and all forms of crimes related to smuggling and drug trafficking till eliminating them completely”, it stressed.

The Foreign Ministry concluded its statement saying” Syria reaffirms that since 2011, it has suffered influx of thousands of terrorists and passage of huge quantities of weapons from neighboring countries, including Jordan, which led to the death of thousands of innocent people and caused great suffering to Syrians in various domains, not to mention destruction of infrastructure.”
