Syria, Jordan discuss enhancing parliamentary cooperation

The Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament Ahmed Al-Safadi and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Amman Issam Nayal on Thursday discussed ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, in addition to a number of issues of common interest.

The meeting, which was held today in the office of the Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament, focused on the Arab role in resolving the crisis in Syria based on preserving its unity, stability and territorial integrity and in accordance with the firm Jordanian position, which considers the peaceful solution as the only way out to solve this crisis. It was also emphasized that the stability of Syria will reflect positively on the entire region.

“The history of the Syrian people and their positions in support for the Arab nation are unforgettable,” Al-Safadi said, adding: Jordan and Syria have historical relations, and it is our duty in the parliaments of the two countries to work to overcome obstacles for the return of relations to their previous era in order to serve the issues of the Arab and Islamic nations and the interests of our two brotherly peoples.

In his turn, Ambassador Nayal commended the great Jordanian role in the return of Syria to the Arab League, and also expressed his appreciation for the role of the Jordanian Parliament and its positions in support of Syria, pointing to the importance of the visit of the heads of Arab parliaments to Syria about three months ago.

Nayal expressed his thanks and appreciation for the Jordanian positions towards Syria, stressing the importance of enhancing and developing prospects of joint parliamentary coordination and exchanging visits of parliamentary delegations between the two sides.
