Syria: Israeli occupation’s escalating crimes against the Palestinians and its attacks on sovereign countries threaten to ignite the entire region
Syria warned that the dangerous escalation in the region, represented by the Israeli occupation’s continued crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people and its persistence in launching attacks on a number of countries, including Syria, threatens to ignite and explode the entire region.
“We meet today at a time when our region is witnessing a dangerous escalation that threatens to ignite and explode it, which will have repercussions on the entire world and not just the region, due to the continued perpetration of the crime of genocide by the Israeli occupation entity against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, and its persistence in launching more acts of aggression against the countries of the region, including Syria, the latest of which was its treacherous aggression against the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan on July 27”, Syria’s Representative to the UN Al-Hakam Dandi said during a Security Council session on the political and humanitarian affairs in Syria, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Dandi added that “My country’s delegation reiterates the contents of the two identical letters that Syria sent to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on August 14, regarding Syria’s categorical rejection of the lies made by the representative of the Israeli occupation entity during the emergency session held by the Security Council under the item “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue”, on August 13, and renews its condemnation in the strongest terms of his actions – within the framework of his ostentatious practices, his exposed tricks and his efforts to falsify the facts – of raising pictures of the Syrian children who were martyred as a result of the sinful Israeli aggression on the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan and his claim that they were “Israeli children”.
“Syria stresses that our people in the occupied Golan are Syrian Arab citizens who were, are and will remain an integral part of the Syrian people, and they are committed to their belonging to their homeland Syria and their national identity, and they reject the Israeli occupation and look forward to ending it and putting an end to its criminal practices against them.” Dandi said.
Dandi added that ‘Syria reaffirms its legitimate right to fully recover the occupied Golan Heights, a fixed right that is not subject to bargaining or pressure, and does not lapse by prescription. It is guaranteed by international law and relevant UN resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981.”.
“What increases the dangers facing the region is that some Western countries, most notably the United States, which claims to be concerned about human rights, are mobilizing their fleets and armies in support of the criminal Israeli occupation entity to further its crimes, massacres and attacks, instead of exercising their role as permanent members of the Security Council, which contributes to fulfilling its mandate and preserving international peace and security in accordance with the Charter.” Dandi said.
Dandi said “Syria continues its steps to improve the humanitarian situation and provide basic services to its citizens, and to follow up on the process of modernizing administrative and legislative structures. In this context, Legislative Decree 19 was issued last month, which stipulated, among other things, the establishment of the National Council for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities to be the body authorized to deal with all matters related to their affairs, including their protection and ensuring their comprehensive integration into society, meeting their various needs, providing them with social protection and appropriate infrastructure, and ensuring their participation in political and public life.”
“Syria also continues its positive approach and constructive cooperation with partners in humanitarian and development work, and continues to provide the necessary support and facilities for their work, as it renewed the authorization granted to the United Nations to use the Bab al-Salam and al-Rai border crossings for an additional three months, to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those who deserve it from Syrian civilians in northwestern Syria.” Dandi added.
Dandi said “While the world celebrated World Humanitarian Day, Syria is still suffering from the politicization and obstruction of humanitarian work by some Western countries by withholding funding and linking it to political conditions that serve their interests at the expense of the security, stability and livelihood of the Syrian people, through hostile policies that have inflicted and continue to inflict severe damage on Syria’s relevant efforts, and on the ability of the United Nations and its specialized agencies to carry out their mandate, support the steadfastness of the Syrians and enhance early recovery projects in the basic sectors referred to in Security Council resolutions, namely health, education, water, electricity and shelter “.
“Syria renews its commitment to a political process led and owned by Syria without any foreign interference, and with full respect for its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and affirms its continued cooperation and dialogue with the Special Envoy within his mandate as facilitator, and looks forward to the success of his efforts to hold the ninth round of the Constitutional Discussion Committee in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.” Dandi said.
Dandi added that “Syria stresses that the political solution in Syria requires ending the illegal presence of US forces, stopping their looting of national wealth and their support for terrorism and their proxy militias that do not hesitate to launch criminal attacks on innocent people defending their families, villages and properties in Deir Ezzor, Hasaka and Qamishli, in addition to other villages in the eastern and northeastern regions, with direct support from US forces presence on parts of Syrian territory illegally.”
