Syria, Iran to enhance cooperation in various fields

Damascus, (ST) – Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Hammoudeh Sabbagh yesterday met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Damascus Hossein Akbari on the occasion of assuming his duties as his country’s ambassador to Syria.

Sabbagh wished Ambassador Akbari all success in his new duties. He stressed the depth of the strong and ever-renewing relations between the two friendly countries and the need to strengthen them in various aspects, especially between the People’s Assembly and the Islamic Consultative Assembly in Iran.

The PA speaker highly appreciated Iran’s positions in support of Syria and its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the independence of its people. He stressed that today, Syria is moving forward towards achieving the final victory over terrorism.

For his part, Akbari affirmed that Iran and Syria were able together to protect their dignity and their independent sovereign decision, by standing up to the forces of evil and aggression that targeted the identity and belonging of the Iranian and Syrian peoples. He indicated that the axis of resistance is facing today a war of another kind, which is the economic war.

Akbari pointed out that the two countries are moving at a rapid pace in order to confront the plans of the enemies, by accelerating the implementation of joint economic projects in accordance with the agreements and MoUs concluded between the two countries.
