Syria, ESCWA to enhance economic cooperation

Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, and the Head of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, Dr. Fadi Al-Salti, met Dr. Rola Dashti, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), who is visiting Syria with a delegation of experts.

The visit aims to discuss possible areas of cooperation between the concerned institutions in Syria and the International Committee for the Development of the Environment for Micro and Medium-sized Enterprises, in order to allow the launch of more targeted programs in order to work on transforming the ideas of small entreprises into real production projects that are sustainable and capable of growth.

Dr. Dashti also visited the technical incubator at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the University of Damascus, which is being worked on to be officially launched by the Syrian state soon.

This incubator provides an environment for students to be creative, and works to develop and launch technical projects that meet the needs of the Syrian society in all sectors. It also enables young people to establish projects that will achieve a suitable start for them in the work and production environment.
