Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Transport Zuhair Khuzaym discussed with experts of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) means of developing cooperation and partnership between the two parties, to serve the different types of transportation in Syria.
During the meeting, in which Yaroub Badr, ESCWA’s Regional Advisor for Transport and Logistics and Nawar Al-Awa, the organization’s Regional Advisor for Technology and Development took part, Minister Khuzaym stressed the importance of benefiting from the experience of ESCWA in the field of transport logistics, and investing it in developing a comprehensive information bank related to the transport sector, which the Ministry began its establishment.
“This matter will be done through a performance indicators program to ensure the success of its management and its outcomes for the business and partners”, he added.
Minister Khuzaym, during the meeting that took place within a workshop organized by ESCWA today in the Ministry’s building, under the title: (Enhancing the quality of data in the transport indicators program and using it for sustainable transport management and planning),pointed to importance of this workshop and the plan to launch a strong and influential information bank in the field of transportation.
Moreover, Khuzaym met with the Ambassador of the Republic of India in Damascus Ershad Ahmed and discussed with him means of enhancing cooperation in the fields of land, sea, air and railway transport and developing the agreements signed between the two countries.
During the meeting, Minister Khuzaym pointed to the importance of advancing development projects in different types of transportation and the necessity of finding practical steps to achieve common goals and visions and benefit from Indian experiences in the fields of transport and communications.
Khuzaym also stressed the importance of developing cooperation in the areas of qualifying and training cadres, especially in aviation, air transport, business and maritime services.
For his part, the Indian ambassador stressed the importance of developing and updating the agreements signed between the two countries and implementing them. He expressed his readiness to transfer all the ideas presented and discussed during the meeting to his country’s government and so tgat to lay the foundations for their implementation.
