Syria deplores holding so-called “Donors’ Conference for victims of Earthquake” in Brussels without coordinating with the Syrian government

Syria deplored the holding of the so-called “Donors’ Conference for Earthquake Victims” in Brussels without coordinating with the Syrian government or inviting it to participate in the activities of the conference, stressing that the minimum level of improvement in the humanitarian and living conditions of the affected people requires the immediate and unconditional lifting of the collective punishment policies imposed by the west on the Syrian people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement today: “The Syrian Arab Republic deplores the holding of the so-called “Brussels Conference for Donors to Support Earthquake Victims in Syria and Turkey,” without coordination with the Syrian government which represents the country in which this disaster happened and without inviting the Syrian Government to participate in conference’s work.

“Indeed, those in charge of the conference also excluded the participation of the most prominent national humanitarian actors from Syrian non-governmental organizations, the ministry added.

The Ministry also said “this approach adopted by the conference organizers and their politicization of humanitarian and development work has been also evident in their continued imposition of their illegal, inhumane and immoral coercive measures on the Syrian people, including those who have been affected by the disaster, as these coercive measures prevented the provision of rescue supplies for the earthquake victims.”

The ministry clarified that the facts have proven that the promoted exceptions from the US and European coercive sanctions are nothing but ineffective formalities of a propaganda nature.

The Ministry confirmed that the US forces illegally present on Syrian territory continue to steal thousands of barrels of Syrian oil and smuggle them out of Syria without regard to the urgent need of those affected by the earthquake for energy resources to operate shelters, emergency systems, health and service facilities and transportation.

The Ministry made it clear that the Syrians’ message to those in charge of this conference and to the participants is that improving the humanitarian and living conditions of those affected by the earthquake disaster requires first and foremost the availability of sincere political will, the immediate and unconditional lifting of the collective punishment policies imposed on the Syrian people, and support for the efforts of the Syrian state and its national institutions to achieve early economic recovery and reconstruction in a way that enables the Syrians to build a better future for their homeland.
