Chairman of the Arab Writers Union in Syria Muhammad Al-Hourani, discussed with the Cuban Ambassador to Damascus, Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodriguez, ways to enhance cultural and literary cooperation between the two friendly countries.
Al-Hourani stressed that the two countries are struggling in one trench to preserve their sovereignty and independence in the face of modern liberalism, which is trying to dominate countries that resist inhuman colonial thought He pointed to the need to communicate with Cuban writers and work to activate this communication by translating and printing important books, and focusing on teaching the Arabic language in Cuban universities to facilitate and deepen communication, and document Syrian-Cuban relations.
Al-Hourani explained that work will be done to issue a special issue on the Syrian-Cuban issue of the Political Thought magazine issued by the Union, expressing the Union’s full solidarity with the invitation made by the Cuban Ambassador to join in supporting the letter of the writer and journalist Ignacio Ramonet addressed to US President Joe Biden, in which he refutes the US administration’s accusations against Cuba and its re-inclusion on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
In turn, Ambassador Rodriguez stressed the depth and strength of relations between the two countries and that Cuba has always been and will always be on the side of the brave Syrian people, and supports their national positions in defending their sovereignty and civilization, pointing to the challenges facing the two countries represented by the imposition of economic and commercial sanctions and blockades on them to increase the suffering of their people, as the economic blockade on Cuba has continued for more than 63 years, while a terrorist war has been imposed on Syria for 13 years, accompanied by illegal unilateral sanctions. The Cuban ambassador suggested translating the book “One Hundred Hours with Fidel” into Arabic, which is a collection of meetings with the Cuban leader Fidel Castro, presenting ideas and visions towards national and international issues.
