Syria condemns Washington’ interference in Cuban affairs

Damascus (ST) – Syria strongly condemned the American interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Cuba, rejecting the American inflammatory behavior and distortion of facts.

Syria called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and work to lift the American blockade imposed on the Cuban people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated that: The Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns the blatant American interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Cuba, and rejects the American inflammatory approach, distorting the facts, and launching accusations against the Cuban government to destabilize the country.

The Ministry indicated that Washington took advantage of the difficult economic conditions that Cuba is witnessing, while the US is the main cause of these conditions as a result of its immoral policies in imposing illegal sanctions on Cuba. These sanctions led to a stifling financial, commercial and economic blockade that has been continuing for more than 64 years.

The Ministry stressed that if Washington was concerned for the Cuban people, it would have immediately lifted the blockade, allowed navigation to the Cuban ports and the arrival of oil, and lifted the financial embargo imposed on the Cuban banks to import the materials needed by the Cuban people.

The Ministry reaffirmed Syria’s support to Cuba in confronting the challenges it faces and its condemnation of the sanctions and the inhumane US blockade on Cuba and other countries.
