Syria condemns seizure of Russian assets by Western countries

Syria condemned attempts by western countries to seize financial assets of the Russian Federation in a flagrant violation of the basic principles and norms of international law, according to SANA News Agency.

“Syria draws attention to the fact that this reckless behavior of Western countries through attempting to seize the sovereign assets of independent countries will lead to devastating consequences for the global financial system,” the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement Tuesday.

The ministry added that taking such measures means that Western countries are finally abandoning respect for property rights and the principle of state immunity.

The minsitry expressed regret over the implementation of these policies that indicate lack of trust and lead to the exacerbation of problems.
