Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, stressed that Syria, like Cuba and a number of other countries, is still the target of coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union outside the framework of the United Nations and international legitimacy.
He reiterated Syria’s demand for the immediate, complete and unconditional lifting of these measures imposed on all countries suffering from them, and putting an end to the policies imposed on the peoples of the world.
Ambassador Al-Dahhak said in a statement before the General Assembly on the necessity of ending the economic and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba: “We reiterate the Syrian Arab Republic’s firm and continuous support for friendly Cuba, its leadership and people, and for its steadfastness in the face of the unjust and illegal American blockade imposed on it since 1962.
Ambassador Al-Dahhak stressed Syria’s full commitment and strong support for the UN resolutions calling for an immediate end to the unjust blockade imposed on Cuba. He stressed that Syria will continue to vote in favor of the draft resolution before the General Assembly, based on its belief in the justice of the Cuban position, and the injustice and unacceptable collective punishment to which the friendly Cuban people are subjected.
Ambassador Al-Dahhak stressed that the US blockade was and still is the main obstacle to developing economic sectors and achieving the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan. He pointed out that the worst thing is the US administration’s inclusion of Cuba on what it falsely calls the “list of state sponsors of terrorism,” a list that in itself expresses the US administration’s violation of international law, the principle of equality of sovereignty of states, and the principles of friendly relations and cooperation among states. He stressed that this list should be cancelled immediately and unconditionally.
