Syria and Oman Sign memorandums of understanding and an executive program

Co-chaired by Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, and Dr. Saeed bin Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Saqri, Omani Minister of Economy, the meetings of the sixth session of the joint Syrian-Omani committee concluded in Muscat today.

During the meetings, Dr. Al-Khalil and the Omani Minister of Information, Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Harrasi, signed 3 memorandums of understanding and an executive program in the fields of media, projects, investment and maritime activities.

The first memorandum and the executive program aimed to document and strengthen relations between the two countries in the field of media as well as cooperation between the two countries’ news agencies and in the radio and television programs and technical and engineering fields.

The second memorandum included developing small and medium enterprises with the aim of developing strategic economic partnership, establishing technology support centers and creating an appropriate environment to stimulate innovation and invention, in addition to organizing and managing activities, commercial exchange of products, seminars, exhibitions, trade markets, mutual visits and training courses.

The third memorandum included mutual recognition of certificates of competency and eligibility for seafarers, of the maritime education and training system between the two sides, and mutual recognition of certificates of competency issued to captains, officers and operators of the global system for distress and safety at sea, and certificates of eligibility.

Dr. Al-Khalil said in a statement to SANA reporter after signing the memorandums: The meetings of the joint committee witnessed important discussions in all sectors in addition to discussions that took place with a number of ministers in the Sultanate of Oman, pointing out that the discussions were constructive in all sectors, and reflect the keenness of the two sides to enhance cooperation in all fields in the service of the two countries.

For his part, the Syrian ambassador to Muscat, Dr. Idris Mia, expressed his satisfaction with what was achieved at the conclusion of the work of the sixth session of the committee, especially with regard to the memorandums of cooperation and understanding signed between the two countries.

In its current session, the Joint Committee dealt with several issues of concern to the Syrian and Omani sides, as they affirmed their keenness to implement the directives of the leaderships of the two brotherly countries in a way that serves bilateral interests and opens new horizons in various fields.
