Minister of Water Resources Dr. Tammam Raad and his Iraqi counterpart Aoun Diab, discussed ways to enhance and develop bilateral cooperation in the field of water resources for the benefit of both countries.
During a meeting in Baghdad today, the two sides stressed the importance of uniting positions and visions in order to ensure the water rights of the two countries, with the need to continue joint cooperation and exchange visits, information and experiences in order to improve this vital and important sector.
Minister Raad stressed ” the importance of uniting the Syrian and Iraqi positions towards ensuring the water rights of the two countries, in accordance with international norms and charters,” pointing to “the keenness of the two countries to maintain consultation and activate the work of the joint committees of measurement stations, for their mutual benefit.
Minister Raad praised the success of the third Baghdad International Water conference, stressing the importance of continuing its sessions.
For his part, the Iraqi minister of Water Resources praised the Syrian delegation’s participation in the work of the conference, pointing to the negative repercussions of climate change and water scarcity, which prompted the Iraqi government to adopt modern irrigation techniques in the implementation of its irrigation projects.
