Switzerland refuses to expel Russian diplomats from the country

Geneva (ST): Swiss President Ignacio Cassis announced his refusal to expel Russian diplomats, like other countries, in response to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

Cassis said in an interview with RTS television broadcast today:  “Switzerland demands an independent international investigation to clarify the violations attributed to Russia in the Ukrainian Bucha”.

The Swiss National Council considered the expulsion of diplomats a measure that must be implemented in order to preserve security and not as a punishment for something, calling for adherence to this line and not to change the rules “for fear of a lot of confusion.”

Yesterday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “The expulsion of Russian diplomats from European countries can be considered a media and political attack on Russia.”
