Sweida lawyers condemn US illegitimate sanctions

Sweida (ST): A number of lawyers and intellectuals denounced today the US tightening of the unilateral coercive measures on the Syrian people through what is called  the Caesar Law which aims to increase pressure on Syrian people following nine years of the terrorist war launched against Syria.

They stressed that this law constitutes a blatant violation of the simplest human rights and international laws, adding that it is also a war crime that contributes to depriving the Syrians from medicine and medical equipment.

Head of the Bar Association Sweida Branch Ghassan Ghurz Eddin said that the unilateral coercive measures being imposed by the US and other EU states are used as a political medium with the aim of interfering  in Syria’s internal affairs. He clarified that the so-called Caesar Law is illegitimate and is not based on the UN Charter, calling on all international legal organizations and friendly states to foil this law which aims to put more pressure on Syria.

Member of the Bar Association Sweida Branch Akram Waked said that any measure taken against Syrian people is a crime because it targets a sovereign state, noting that  the Caesar Law is a new episode in the series of the illegitimate sanctions which should be immediately lifted.

Lawyer Hussam Abu Saleh said that the so-called Caesar law runs contrary to all international human rights and conventions which aims to blackmail the Syrian people and state.

Lawyer Raghad al-Ghothani affirmed that the Syrian people will be able to overcome these sanctions which aim to step up pressure against Syria.

Citizen Sulaiman Areej said that the so-called law reflects colonialist interests, and it requires from the Syrian people to consolidate their steadfastness in confrontation of the illegitimate and unfair sanctions.
