Susan: Syrian state has adopted measures in various fields to facilitate the return of refugees and displaced people to their houses
Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the caretaker government Ayman Susan affirmed that tens of thousands of internally displaced people have returned to their cities and villages, and that thousands of Syrian refugees have returned from outside Syria since the International Conference on Return of refugees that was held in November 2020 in Damascus.
He added that this was achieved as a result of measures taken by the Syrian state in various fields to facilitate their return, mainly the decrees of amnesty, settling the statuses and the national reconciliations, which have led to the release of many prisoners who had been misled.
His remarks came in a speech he gave on Monday during the opening session of the joint meeting of the Syrian-Russian Coordination Committees being held in Damascus.
Susan stressed that the Syrian government, upon the directives of President Bashar al-Assad, will continue to take all required measures to secure and facilitate the return of the displaced people and secure the requirements of a decent life for them.
He also pointed out that some hostile countries impede the return of the Syrians refugees and exploit their suffering to serve their hostile agendas in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the International human rights law.
“These countries will not succeed in implementing their schemes and they will fail again thanks to the strong determination of the Syrian people,” Susan stated.
He concluded by saying that the brutal American and Turkish occupation of precious parts of Syria, the illegitimate unilateral coercive measures, and attempts to prevent the reconstruction process hinder the return of the refugees.
The Syrian-Russian joint meeting to follow up the work of the International Conference on the Return of Syrian Refugees and Displaced people, who were forced to leave their homeland because of terrorist groups’ crimes, started on Monday at the Conferences Palace in Damascus.
The three-day event will discuss the measures adopted by the Syrian state to create suitable conditions for the return of Syrian refugees and provide decent living conditions and a comfortable environment in coordination and cooperation with the Russian Federation.
The International Conference on Return of Syrian Refugees was held in November 2020, and it called on the international community to provide appropriate support in order to provide housing for the displaced people and their return to normal life and increase its contribution and support to Syria through carrying out projects related to reconstruction, including basic infrastructure facilities such as water and electricity plants, schools, hospitals, health and medical care, social services, and demining.
