The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Ayman Susan, affirmed that after Syria’s achievements in the war on terrorism, no one can impose dictates without taking into account its national interests, pointing out that the international change towards Syria was imposed by the failure of the American-Western project as a result of the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Syrians.
There is an impression today of the need to spread an atmosphere of calm on the international scene. This began to be evident in the wake of the departure of the previous US administration headed by Donald Trump, the summit of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Geneva, and the continuous contacts with Russian officials, which mainly aim to control the escalating tension in relations between the two superpowers, Susan said in an interview with Syrian channel on Wednesday evening.
Susan noted that this atmosphere must have an impact on the international situation, and what concerns us in the first place is the situation in Syria. The steadfastness and sacrifices of the Syrians and the support of the allies inflicted a severe blow to the unipolar regime and strengthened the Russian role in the international arena.
The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates pointed out that the situation in Syria today is not comparable to what it was during the years of the unjust war that was imposed on it due the great field achievements of the Syrian Arab Army in the fight against terrorism. We witness great contacts between Syria and other countries which in turn will be in the interest of consolidating stability and strengthening international peace and security. Susan stressed that there is a difference between those who work for understanding in order to consolidate the achievements made and those who seek to cover the setbacks and failure of their projects in Syria.
Susan added that the meetings of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly came after the important events that Syria witnessed this year, the last of which was the final liberation of Daraa from terrorism and its return completely to the control of the Syrian state. The Presidential election is the most prominent event through which the Syrian people express their rejection of any form of trusteeship, subordination and interference in their national choices. The meetings represented an opportunity and provided a platform for the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to present the reality of the situation in Syria and Syria’s positions regarding these situations and all international issues.
Susan pointed out that the meetings held by the delegation with many delegations participating in the work of the General Assembly amounted to more than thirty meetings, 25 ones with foreign ministers and 5 with the UN Secretary-General and officials of international organizations. This matter is very important because it broke the wall of isolation that the enemies of Syria tried to impose within the framework of political and diplomatic pressure on Syria. Susan underlined the importance of these meetings not only in terms of number, but also in terms of quality. There are meetings with some delegations taking place for the first time which would positively affect the situation in Syria in general, and at the same time stresses the importance of Syria’s position on the international scene.
He reiterated Syria’s position that any military presence on its territory without its consent is considered an occupation that must be terminated, including the American military presence. After the failure of this American project, we began to hear many voices inside the United States, especially in Congress, calling for the withdrawal of these forces from Syria, which has the right under the UN Charter to liberate its lands by all available means. This issue is not negotiable, and these foreign forces must leave Syria unconditionally.
Susan pointed out that the wealth of Syria, which is controlled by the “SDF” militia with the support of the American occupation forces, is the property of the Syrian people, and no one has the right to dispose of them. The policies carried out by the American occupation and SDF militia are considered theft practices. Syria addressed several reports to the United Nations in this regard which is about to take legal measures to hold the US administration accountable for these behaviors and to demand compensation for these thefts.
Susan underlined the necessity of lifting the illegal Western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, calling on those who lament the suffering of the Syrians to know that they are the main cause of this suffering as a result of these measures that target the citizen in his life and livelihood. These measures must be lifted, especially after the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, which impeded the provision of necessary health care to many people.
Susan stressed that no one will be allowed to prejudice the unity of Syria, and consequently what the “SDF” separatist militia proposed is just illusions. This militia which agreed to subjugate to the foreigner must have complete confidence that even the American himself looks upon them with contempt and that they betrayed their country, and when the need for them ends, the Americans will abandon them, as was the case with all the cheap tools that the American occupation utilized in the region and the world.
Regarding the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the Turkish regime, Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, Susan said: “The talk in general is about the destructive Turkish role in Syria, and in particular about the situation in Idlib, which is one of the four de-escalation zones that were supposed to be liberated from terrorism and returned to control of the Syrian state in accordance with the understandings concluded. But the Turkish regime’s evasion, deception and failure to adhere to its commitments led to the continuation of the situation in Idlib. The statements we hear from Russian officials about refusing to accept the continuation of the terrorist outpost in Idlib fully correspond to Syria’s position that Idlib will not be an exception and it will return to the Syrian state sooner rather than later.”
With regard to the meetings of the committee to discuss the constitution in Geneva, Susan said that the committee will hold its sixth meeting on the eighteenth of next month. The matter is important in emphasizing that this process is a Syrian-Syrian dialogue under the leadership and ownership of Syria without any external interference. The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General shall abide by impartiality and objectivity to prevent attempts of external interference in the work of the Committee if he wants it to achieve the desired results.
Regarding the return of refugees and displaced persons, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates pointed out that the Syrian citizen does not need an invitation to return to his homeland, and the state is making every effort to facilitate this return and provide the requirements of a decent life. The repulsive exploitation of this file and trading in the suffering of these people to serve certain agendas are no longer hidden from anyone. But just as Syria’s enemies have failed in other aspects, they will fail in this matter, and the biggest proof of that is the return of large numbers of refugees to their homeland and the displaced to their cities and villages living their normal lives.
With regard to the reconstruction process, Susan continued saying that any country that takes a clear approach to terrorism in Syria can contribute to this process if it achieves the national interest. The Chinese Foreign Minister recently visited Damascus, indicating Beijing’s interest in supporting Syria to overcome the effects of the unjust war.
In response to a question about the possibility of Syria returning to the Arab League, Susan said: Despite the pain and wound caused by some Arabs, Syria is still adhering to this idea and to the Arab affiliation. Syria looks to the future and does not look to the past. As for the Arab League, what happened is the result of a legal error and a political position. If this mistake is corrected and new approaches are taken, things will return to its nature but this time in a correct legal framework.
Susan stressed that Syria is close to achieving its final victory over the conspiracy it was subjected to. Here we must remember with reverence our martyrs and our valiant army, the makers of victory, and we must express pride in our loyal, steadfast and patient people who supported their army and gathered around the wise and courageous leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad. After the latest achievements made against terrorism, the time has come for reaching the political and diplomatic achievements , which lays the foundations for a promising start at the economic level and the strengthening of the productive process which would have positive effects on the overall general situation, and in particular on the living situation of the Syrians.
