Supreme Presidential Committee for Church Affairs warns against the occupation’s attempt to control the properties of the Armenian Patriarchate in occupied Al-Quds
The Supreme Presidential Committee for Follow-up of Church Affairs in Palestine warned of the Israeli occupation’s attempts to control the properties of the Armenian Patriarchate in occupied Al-Quss (Jerusalem), the most recent of which was the forced eviction last night of the Patriarchate’s “Cow Garden” property and the accompanying occupation attacks on the clergy and its guards.
In a statement issued today by its Chairman, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Ramzi Khoury, and reported by Wafa Agency, the committee considered that the occupation’s attempts to control the patriarchal property come in the context of the operations of Judaizing the occupied city of Al-Quds with its heritage, land, real estate, and Islamic and Christian sanctities, in implementation of the Israeli systematic policies against the Palestinian people.
The committee condemned the Israeli crimes and flagrant violations of the sanctity of the place protected under international laws and norms, explaining that the “Cow Garden” property is located within the walls of the Armenian Patriarchate, and the occupation forces and settlers are trying to control it through escalating pressures, threats, and attacks on the Armenians.
The committee added: The escalation of the occupation’s attacks on churches and their property in occupied al-Quds, as is the case on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the restriction of worshipers’ entry to it during the month of Ramadan, comes in the light of the continuation of the war of genocide and starvation in Gaza Strip, and the continuation of the crimes of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, which confirms its Judaizing plans to target the identity of the Palestinians: Islamic and Christian.
The committee called for urgent international action by all the churches of the world and the relevant legal and human rights institutions to put an end to the occupation’s violations and attempts to control by force, threats, oppression, and abuse, the church’s property and institutions for the benefit of its colonial plans, warning of the danger and impact of these practices on the Christian presence in the Holy City.
