Supreme Council of the Evangelical Community in Syria and Lebanon stresses “Deal of the Century” will bring only wars

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Supreme Council of the Evangelical Community in Syria and Lebanon has expressed its absolute rejection of the so-called “Deal of the Century”, recently announced by US President Donald Trump, stressing that the deal is a flagrant violation of international legitimacy resolutions and human rights.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Council said “We see that the announced deal will bring only wars and suffering to the peoples of the region, particularly the Palestinian people.”

It called on all its churches, partners and ecumenical councils to speak out in international forums to condemn this US plan and call for establishing the Palestinian state on the historical land of Palestine in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

On Tuesday, the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the Quartet on the Middle East and on members of the Security Council to hold an international conference on implementing international resolutions, mainly Resolution No. 2334 which stresses the illegality of the Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories which should be stopped immediately.
