Supporting Agriculture to Oil Production, Export Wheel

DAMASCUS, (ST) – In light of the growing importance of the role of agriculture in supporting the local economy of any country and the hopes attached by governments to the success of economic policies that assume importance of local agricultural product, lot of third world countries tends to strengthen and support their agricultural sectors to take their role in moving the wheel of production and exportto increase output local.

As one of these countries, Syria is seeking to support this important economic aspect in light of the unfair economic sanctions imposed that made Syria backs to the square of self-sufficiency as an alternative solution to the lost of industries due to the recent crisis to act on the support of a number of strategic crops such as wheat and cotton.

In a statement to local press, Director of Agricultural Economy at the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Majd Ayoub clarified thatthe support of the agricultural sector contributes to the increase of production, the growth of the business investment and thus raise the value-added and support gross domestic, pointing to the need to take a number of actions to be agricultural production, one of the pillars of export.

“The most important actions includethe support as a  mechanism for the policy of price, identifying export products, the introduction of new export items, identifying the strategy of support that leads to competitiveness of agricultural products,providing production requirements, ensuring information of the best modern agricultural ways to achieve greater economic revenue, the need for the participation of producers in the export process andproviding small and medium loans in programsofsupport, Dr. Ayoub explained.

In this context, this support will contribute to improve the incomes of producers and provide them stability, which is reflected positively on the national product, increase the proportion of cultivated areas and achieve self-sufficiency, provide food security as well as its contribution to the modernization of production and the development of mechanism of manufacturing and marketing of agricultural products to take advantage of the added value and increase exports.

”This support has a positive role at the political level through increasing production, especially strategic crops such as wheat, cotton and maize,” Dr. Ayoub added.
