Sulaiman: Lebanon upholds dialogue to end crisis in Syria

BEIRUT,(ST)_Lebanon upholds efforts being exerted to bring about a political solution based on dialogue to solve the crisis in Syria, the Lebanese President said on Tuesday.

In a speech broadcasted by al-Manar TV, Michel Sulaiman told diplomatic crops: “From the very beginning,we stated our support for dialogue and efforts that help reaching a political solution upon which all parties agree, meets the Syrian people’s aspirations, and achieves a democracy that preserves Syria’s unity and all citizens’ rights and freedom far away from violence and extremism.”

Lebanon’s President said that his country is ‘directly’ interested in Syria’s stability, prosperity and sovereignty because of brotherly and friendly ties (between Syria and Lebanon).

He hoped that diplomatic efforts, including that being exerted by LakhdarBrahimi, the UN Envoy to Syria, would help crystalize the political solution and start implementing it as soon as possible.

Palestinian cause

In another context, Sulaiman called for intensifying diplomatic and international efforts to reach new approaches that help impose a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause and Arab-Israel conflict.

“This solution would create main conditions to realize stability and progress in the Middle East,” the Lebanese President said.

He deplored Israel’s policy in the occupied Arab lands, stressing that Israel’s settlement policy hampers peace process and breaches the relevant UN resolutions.

Sulaiman also underscored the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to establish an Independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
