The Sudanese authorities have announced today that the death toll from the torrential rains and floods that have swept the country since last June has risen to 104.
Sudanese media quoted the National Council for Civil Defense as saying in a statement today: that the torrential rains led to “the death of 104 people and the injury of 96 others,” noting that the accumulated water and storms led to the complete collapse of 32,792 homes, 44,836 partially, and 195 facilities as well as 108 stores damaged.
The latest statistics of the number of casualties announced by the Sudanese authorities amounted to 100 people.
On August 21, the Council of Ministers declared a state of emergency in 6 states against the backdrop of torrential rains. The devastated areas were: The Nile River in the north, the island in the center, the White Nile, West Kordofan in the south, South Darfur in the west, and Kassala in the east.
The autumn rainy season in Sudan lasts from June to October of each year, and heavy rains usually fall during this period.
