Students at  Australian University of Melbourne continue their sit-in in solidarity with Palestine for the 5th day

Students at the Australian University of Melbourne continue their sit-in on the university campus for the 5th day running in solidarity with Palestine.

Wafa Agency quoted the Palestinian student Nadia Al-Shaer as saying: A large number of university students are continuing their sit-in inside the tents they set up on the university campus five days ago, in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to the occupation’s aggression since the 7th of last October.

Al-Shaer added: Through their sit-in, the students express their solidarity with the students of the Gaza Strip who have been deprived of completing their school and university education since the beginning of the aggression. She pointed out that the university students are determined to continue the sit-in to put pressure on its administration to change its policies and positions on Israeli aggression.

Al-Shaer stressed the importance of the student movement around the world in influencing public opinion, and mobilizing support, solidarity and pressure to end the aggression. She pointed out that the sit-in by University of Melbourne students prompted the vice-chancellor to submit his resignation, and that the students will continue their campaign to influence other educational institutions.

The occupation’s continued aggression against the Gaza Strip prevented 625,000 students from completing their education, killed more than 6,417, and exposed more than 60 percent of school buildings to bombing or direct damage.

It is noteworthy that American universities have been experiencing a student movement for about 12 days in solidarity with Palestine and denouncing the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the scope of the student movement has expanded to reach some universities in European countries, Canada and Australia.
