“Stop Israeli aggression against Gaza strip”  Non-Aligned Movement concludes

Kampala -(ST)- The countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, at the conclusion of the 19th Summit, demand a stop to  Israeli aggression against Gaza Strip and an end to the occupation.

 

At the conclusion of its 19th summit in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement affirmed the continuation of work to achieve a world in which peace, justice and prosperity prevail for all, while stressing the necessity of stopping the Israeli occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip and making urgent progress towards ending the occupation.

The summit concluded its work yesterday with the adoption of the final document and the Kampala Political Declaration, which affirmed adherence to the vision and principles of the movement, as established in the Bandung conferences of 1955 and Belgrade of 1961, and continuing to work to achieve a world of peace, justice and well-being for all.

The participants condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli military aggression against the Gaza Strip, the indiscriminate attacks against Palestinian civilians and civilian objects, and the forced displacement of Palestinians, and demanded an immediate and permanent ceasefire for humanitarian reasons. They also stressed the need to make urgent progress towards ending the Israeli occupation and establishing the Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital and  granting it full membership in the United Nations so that it can take its rightful place among the nations.

They also condemned Israel’s continued establishment of settlements and expansionist activities throughout the occupied Palestinian territory, as well as in the occupied Syrian Golan, stressing that the situation in Palestine and the great threat it poses to regional and international peace and security requires the attention of the international community, including the Security Council in order to  end the occupation and to ensure the implementation of the relevant General Assembly and Security Council resolutions. They also welcomed South Africa’s filing of a lawsuit against “Israel” before the International Court of Justice for the crime of genocide against the Palestinians.

The participants reaffirmed the movement’s position calling for ending the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Arab Golan and withdrawing from it until the line of June 4, 1967, in accordance with Security Council Resolutions No. 242 and 338, stressing the content of Resolution 497, which stipulates that all measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities to change the legal, administrative and demographic status of the Golan

This called on the participants to continue working to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, and to oblige “Israel” to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty and place its nuclear facilities under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s safeguards system.

They called for the complete, immediate and unconditional lifting of all unilateral coercive measures, including those used as tools of political, economic and financial pressure against any country, in particular against developing countries, as they constitute a violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law, and hinder the enjoyment of human rights and the well-being of the population of countries. affected areas, and impose obstacles to the full achievement of sustainable development goals and national development plans.

The participants stressed respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of all countries and their political independence, and their rejection of acts of aggression, occupation and external interference in the internal affairs of countries, as well as the rejection of hegemonic ambitions, neo-colonialism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, contempt of religions, hate speech and violence, stressing the upholding and strengthening of the principles of international law and the provisions of the Charter of Nations. The United Nations and the pillars of international multilateral action.

They stressed the need for concerted efforts to confront existing and emerging challenges, including by continuing work to combat terrorism and cross-border crimes, and enhancing joint action in the field of reducing climate change, economic crises, natural disasters, health emergencies, and environmental degradation.

Syria participated in the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement countries, which was held in Kampala last Friday and Saturday with an official delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh.
