“Stone & Trace”, an initiative to introduce archaeological sites in Sweida

In the Sweida Governorate, an initiative entitled: “Stone and Trace” began with   acquaining  the young generation with a number of archaeological sites in their regions and their successive civilizations.
The initiative, in which about 70 young volunteers from the youth center of the European Institute for Cooperation and Development in Sweida participated, included a clean-up campaign at the archaeological site of Qanawat, in cooperation with the town council, in addition to introducing the area’s landmarks and archaeological sites and Sweida National Museum by those concerned with the Department of Antiquities.
Head of Sweida Antiquities Department pointed out the importance of the initiative to educate the young generation about the antiquities and history of the homeland and to enhance the culture of the people of the governorate with its cultural, historical and tourist attractions.
The coordinator of the Youth Center at the European Institute Organization said in a similar statement that the initiative comes within the framework of spreading awareness and culture among the young generation on various topics, including archaeological sites.
A life skills trainer at the Youth Center pointed out that the initiative is in line with enhancing the spirit of teamwork and opening new horizons for the participants in the initiative who indicated that the initiative gave them the opportunity to gain new information about archaeological sites and contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of the area.
