Stands in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in support for prisoners in the occupation jails

Occupied Al-Quds, (ST) – Hundreds of Palestinians participated on Monday in stands in several areas in the West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip in support for the prisoners in the Israeli occupation jails and to demand their release.

Wafa News Agency said that hundreds participated in the stands organized in Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Jericho, Tubas and the western Gaza Strip, during which they raised Palestinian flags, pictures of prisoners, banners and national slogans and chanted slogans supporting the prisoners. They demanded their freedom and an end to the oppressive occupation practices against them.

The participants in the stands also calls on the international community to pressure the occupation to release prisoners, especially senior citizens, old and sick.

The Governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Laila Ghannam, affirmed that the “captive movement” pays its life for Palestine, as no Palestinian house is devoid of a prisoner. She referred the steadfastness of the prisoners in the face of the practices they are exposed to in detention.

For his part, the Head of the Supreme Commission for the Follow-up of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs, Amin Shoman, indicated that these activities come after a series of measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities against the prisoners, including medical neglect and solitary confinement.

The Director of the Prisoners’ Club in Jericho Eid Brahma pointed out that the prisoners are subjected to procedures and practices by the occupation authorities to undermine their steadfastness, especially the sick among them, but the occupier will not be able to achieve its goals. He pointed out that this stand comes to confirm that the prisoners are not alone in their battle against the occupation and its practices.

For his part, the Governor of Tubas and the Northern Jordan Valley, Younis Al-Asi, said that this stand confirms the commitment of the Palestinians towards their prisoners in the occupation’s jails, and their rejection of the occupation’s oppressive practices against the prisoners.

In turn, the Director of the Prisoner Club in Tubas, Kamal Bani Odeh, said that the physical and psychological torture of prisoners is a war crime.

For his part, Hassan Quneita from the Prisoners Affairs Commission, said that the occupation practices killing against sick prisoners as a result of deliberate medical negligence. He called on international human rights institutions to pressure the occupation to release the prisoners and the bodies of the detained martyrs.

About five thousand Palestinian prisoners face harsh detention conditions, including about 600 prisoners who need urgent medical intervention.
