Sponsored and attended by the First Lady… Amal al-Khani Center opens Paths of Hope for children with autism
With its modern and sophisticated therapeutic techniques, Amal Al Khani Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders turns the pain of autistic children into hope and charts the way for their integration into the surrounding society.
“Autism” is one of the disorders belonging to a group of developmental disorders called in medical language disorders of the subjective spectrum, and it often appears at an early age in children (infancy), and before the child reaches the age of three.
The most prominent symptoms of this type of disorder appear in the child’s ability to communicate with those around him and develop mutual relationships with them. Early diagnosis is pivotal in the treatment, which is a complex process that requires special skills and abilities from those involved.
Hence the importance of Amal al-Khani Centre for Autism and Developmental Disorders, opened by First Lady Asma Al-Assad in the quiet town of Saboura in rural Damascus, as a quiet sanctuary suited to the needs of sick children, giving them the opportunity to explore and focus, as well as to enhance their response to treatment and interaction with their surroundings.
The center is the first of its kind in Syria, not only for providing the necessary medical care to this segment of children, but also for its unique and distinctive ability to develop them psychologically and socially, and encourage them to progress on the road to recovery.
The center is characterized by an advanced and innovative vision to help autistic children recover. It includes the latest therapeutic technologies and modern devices, in addition to the Departments of sensory integration, neural, auditory and visual stimulation, the interactive and dark rooms section and the occupational therapy section. Each section is unique to address one of the problems suffered by the child, finally reaching learning, speaking, reception and creativity.
Dr. Doaa Othman from Egypt, who contributed to the establishment of the center, pointed out that the Amal Al-Khani center includes most of the services needed by an autistic child. It includes advanced therapeutic sections such as the multi-pillar sensory integration room to address the problem of repetitive movements and stereotypical behavior that hinder the child from learning, and the section of neurostimulation methodology based on Glenn doman technology to address the problem of brain pathways and the nervous system.“.
According to Othman, the center’s staff also relies on the “neurofeedback” technology, which monitors the brain activity of patients ‘ children and provides immediate feedback to him, and the “biofeedback” technology, which is one of the therapeutic methods through which the patient learns to control his physiological body functions in order to improve his physical, psychological and mental health.
