Speaker of the People’s Assembly meets the visiting French delegation

DAMASCUS – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham met a French delegation of parliamentarians, journalists, intellectuals and businessmen headed by member of the Parliamentary Committee of the Foreign Affairs at the National Assembly Thierry Mariani.

Al-Laham stressed during the meeting the importance role which the national, regional and international parliamentary institutions could play in establishing peace, solving problems and crises through dialogue and directing the public opinion to face the Takfiri terrorism which has become a threat to the whole region and the entire world, SANA reported.

 He wondered how the European countries, being civil states that have been advocates of democracy and freedom, could ally with countries and kingdoms that promote takfir thinking and extremism, highlighting the importance of conveying to the world the real situation and facts in Syria and the region in terms of the spread of terrorism, extremism, violence and chaos that significantly threaten Europe.

For his part, Mariani said in a statement to journalists following the meeting that the visit of the French delegation to Syria aims at getting familiar with what is really taking place on the ground in Syria, asserting the importance of every effort to combat terrorism in the region.
