Spanish Universities are to suspend their cooperation with “Israel” due to the barbaric aggression on Gaza Strip
Spanish universities have announced their readiness to suspend their cooperation with any educational institution in the Israeli occupation entity that “does not express a clear commitment to peace,” due to the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
In a statement quoted by AFP, the Council of Spanish universities “Crue”, which includes 76 Spanish universities, 50 of which are public and 26 are private, condemned the Israeli aggression and announced its support for the recent protests, demanding an immediate cessation of aggression and pledging “to review relations, and if necessary, suspend cooperation with Israeli universities and research centers that have not expressed their firm commitment to peace and respect for international humanitarian law”.
“What we really want is for the government and university presidents to meet our demands and sever ties with Israel,” Sebastian Gonzalez, 28, a spokesman for the protesters, told AFP.
“When our demands are met, we will break up the camp, and until then we will continue to picket here and throughout Spain,” Gonzalez added.
The first protest in Spain began on April 29 at the University of Valencia in the east of the country, where students set up about twenty tents to demand an end to the genocide in Gaza… This was followed by a similar protest with tents at the University of Barcelona, before the camps spread this week to Madrid, the Basque region in the north of the country, Alicante in the East and Andalusia in the South.
The Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip sparked a wave of pro-Palestinian protests that affected American universities for weeks, before the wave then spread to many cities in Europe and even Australia.
