Madrid, (ST) – Spanish academics and Syrian expatriates in Spain called for lifting the unjust and unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries on the Syrian people. They called for helping Syrian people to get out of their ordeal after the devastating earthquake that hit Syria at dawn on Monday.
Professor at Complutense State University in Madrid and an expert in Syrian history and international relations, Pablo Sapag stressed that the current suffering of the Syrian people exposes the true face of the United States and European countries and their attempts to worsen the Syrians’ suffering, by continuing the unilateral coercive measures they imposed in their country.
Sapag added that had it not been for these coercive measures that violate international law, many lives could have been saved, and the infrastructure in Syria would have been in a better position to deal with this natural disaster.
He stressed that there are millions of people around the world who are in solidarity with Syria at the present time, but they cannot send Material or financial aid due to these arbitrary coercive measures.
For his part, the Director of the Spanish Geopolitical Institute, Juan Antonio Aguilar expressed full solidarity with the Syrian people in these tragic moments and the suffering they are going through due to the devastating earthquake. He declared his readiness with many Spanish citizens to help this people overcome their ordeal.
In turn, the journalist and analyst in the geopolitical affairs of the Middle East and Africa, Koldo Salsar Lopez, confirmed that what the US administration and its European followers have done against Syria cannot be called sanctions. He added that this matter is not issued by the UN Security Council, and therefore the Syrian people suffer from illegal collective restrictive measures led by the United States, which uses this tool to blackmail countries and nations and undermine their sovereignty.
The Syrian expatriate and the Head of the Association of Syrian-Spanish businessmen in Andalusia, Fawzi Kanafani denounced the policy of double standards pursued by Western countries towards the Syrian people, and their imposition of an unfair siege on them.
The Head of the Anti-Imperialist Committee in Catalonia, Doctor Manuel Sarkis, expressed full solidarity with the Syrian motherland, its people, and its government in this ordeal and catastrophe that struck the country. He added that we call on global imperialism to lift the unjust and brutal sanctions and the coercive blockade that it imposed against our homeland and our people.
The Head of the Syrian community in Spain Ratib Bayram expressed the solidarity of the Syrian expatriates in Spain with their homeland Syria. He called on behalf of the community for all countries of the world to rise up to lift the brutal siege and lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed by America and Europe against the Syrian people, especially in these difficult times.
