Spain to join South Africa’s Gaza genocide case against Israel at ICJ

Madrid-(ST)- Spain announced Thursday that it has joined the case filed against the Israeli occupation entity by South Africa at the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of violating the court’s obligations in its war on Gaza Strip.

Agence France-Presse quoted Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez as saying: “We will join South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel’s operations in Gaza Strip,” stressing that the goal “is to end the war and establish an independent Palestinian state.”

Albaris’ statement came a week after Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, recognized the State of Palestine.

South Africa filed a lawsuit against the Israeli occupation, officially called the Implementation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip, at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, on the 29th of last December.

The pleading, supported by documents, is 84 pages in English, and provides evidence of condemnation of the Israeli occupation for seeking genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The lawsuit also asks the court in principle to provide temporary protection measures for the Palestinians.
