Spain strongly rejects Israeli statements on annexing the West Bank

The Spanish government expressed its strong rejection of the Israeli statements regarding the annexation of the occupied West Bank.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that “imposing sovereignty by force is contrary to international law, and the International Court of Justice has ruled that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories for decades is illegal and must end as soon as possible.”

It added that the extremist statements are provocative and hinder the necessary calming of regional tensions, stressing that the settlements are completely contrary to international law.

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich pledged in a speech he delivered while chairing a meeting of the “Religious Zionism” party in the Israeli Knesset last Monday that 2025 would be the year of Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank.
