Seoul (ST): South Korea said today it has recorded 1,896 new cases of Covid-19 disease, the highest daily increase ever in infections, as the country struggles to contain a fourth wave of the outbreak fueled by the highly contagious delta strain.
This number exceeded the record registered on July 22, with the spread of infection outside the capital, Seoul, and its surrounding areas, as the authorities imposed the strictest measures of social separation.
Yesterday, strict social distancing measures were implemented in most parts of the country for a period of two weeks, with the aim of curbing the spread of the virus during the peak of the summer holiday season in the country.
