Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Soussan and Member of the European Parliament Thierry Mariani discussed during a meeting on Tuesday the situation in Syria as well as regional and international developments.
Soussan said that after major military achievements in the war on terrorism, Syria, today, is facing economic terrorism imposed by forces of aggression. He pointed out that the unilateral coercive measures, imposed on Syria by the United States and the European Union, constitute a flagrant violation of the International Law and of the simplest principles of human rights and they amount to war crimes.
“These coercive measures, which affect the livelihood of Syrian citizens, have been used as a weapon in the war on Syria, therefore, they amount to a war crime,” Soussan said.
Soussan regretted the European Union’s continuous wrong approach towards the situation in Syria due to the EU’s subordination to the US policy, which does not serve the interests of the European peoples.
On their part, Mariani and the accompanying delegation expressed their satisfaction over the return of security and stability to most of the Syrian territories after the defeat of terrorist groups. They condemned the coercive measures imposed on Syria, stressing their readiness to work in order to acquaint the European public opinion with the harmful effects of these measures on the Syrian citizens and with the importance of completely lifting them. They also affirmed their readiness to work as to urge the European governments to change their wrong policies in Syrian.
