Soussan: The Syrians’ wide participation in presidential elections confirms their rejection of all forms of subordination and interference in Syria’s internal affairs

The Syrians’ wide participation in presidential elections indicates their adherence to the sovereignty and national independent decision of their country and stresses their rejection of all forms of subordination and interference in Syria’s internal affairs, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Soussan told a delegation representing the Russian media outlets covering the Syrian presidential elections.

During a meeting on Thursday, Soussan said that these presidential elections will mark the start of the process of enhancing the achievements realized on the ground and confronting current challenges, mainly continuing the fight against terrorism, ending the US and Turkish occupation of Syrian territories, increasing production and improving the economic situation to alleviate the suffering of citizens resulted from difficult living conditions.

Sousan answered some questions by Russian journalists that focused on developments in Syria, the future of the political process and the Syrian-Arab relations. He affirmed continuous positive dealing with the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee on the basis of intra-Syrian dialogue within a Syrian-led and owned process away from foreign interference. He stressed that the constitution is a sovereign affair that should be made by the Syrians in a way that meets their aspirations.

On the Syrian-Arab relations, Soussan made it clear that “having bad relations between brothers is not a normal situation. Syria looks towards the future not the past and is open to any serious positive initiative.” He pointed out that the Arab League must express the Arab peoples’ aspirations and serve the Arab nation’s interests.
