Sousan meets with the Iranian delegation in the framework of the Sochi meeting within the Astana format
Sochi, (ST) – Syrian Arab Republic delegation, headed by assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Ayman Sousan held a meeting on Wednesday with the Iranian delegation headed by the Senior Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji, in the framework of 15th International Meeting within the Astana format held in Sochi.
The two sides reviewed the course of the fifteenth meeting of the Astana track and the situation in Syria. View points were identical on the importance of continuing joint action in various fields, especially in fighting terrorism until it is completely eliminated from all Syrian lands.
The two sides also affirmed the responsibility of the international community in stopping the policy of imposing unilateral coercive measures adopted by some Western countries and targeting peoples, in addition to the importance of not politicizing the humanitarian aid file while at the same time not allowing this aid to reach terrorist organizations.
With regard to the political process, the two sides stressed the importance of respecting the terms of reference for this process, especially in terms of rejecting any external interference.
Dr. Sousan met yesterday with the Russian delegation headed by the Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, and there was an agreement on the importance of continuing work within the framework of the Astana process. He also met with the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy to Syria, Geir Pederson, and the situation in Syria was reviewed.
Yesterday, in the Russian city of Sochi, the 15th International Meeting on Syria within the Astana format started with the participation of the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic and the guarantor countries of the Astana process, in addition to representatives of the countries that have observer status in the Astana process, namely Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan, as well as the United Nations, whose delegation is headed by the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria Geir Pedersen.
