Sousan meets Pedersen in Astana

Astana (ST) – The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, head of the Syrian delegation, Dr. Ayman Sousan, discussed today with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen the latest developments in Syria and the region, within the framework of the 19th international meeting on Syria in the Astana format, held in the Kazakh capital.

The meeting dealt with the developments of the situations in Syria and a number of issues of cooperation between the Syrian government and the UN, especially with regard to the humanitarian aspect.

In this regard, Dr. Sousan affirmed that the Syrian government continues to provide humanitarian aids to those who need it in the various Syrian territories without discrimination. He stressed the necessity of not politicizing the humanitarian situation and respecting the principles that govern work in this field, especially in terms of coordination with the Syrian government.

For his turn, Pedersen presented his efforts within the framework of his mandate, pointing out the importance of avoiding any actions that could lead to an escalation and complication of the situation. He recalled the statement of the Secretary-General António Guterres, who called for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.

Members of the Syrian and UN delegations attended the meeting.
