Some 85 Companies Take Part in “Syria Food” Exhibition

Damascus-The Syrian Food Industries Exhibition, organized by the Syrian Exporters’ Union and the Chamber of Industry of Damascus and its countryside, started on Thursday at the Fair Ground, with the participation of 85 companies.

The five -day exhibition is the largest of its kind in the field of food industries. It is located on an area of 12 thousand square meters and includes all locally produced food items in order to prove that the Syrian food product has high added value and has competitive advantages.

  The head of the Syrian Exporters’ Union, Mohammed Al-Sawah, said in a statement to SANA that the importance of the exhibition comes from the fact that the food industrial sector in Syria is the first export of Syria’s many agricultural products which are internationally desirable. He pointed out that the exhibition will host hundreds of importers and businessmen from different countries including Europe, neighboring countries, North Africa and the Mediterranean basin.

 For his part, the head of Damascus Chamber of Industry, Samer Al-Debs, said that the Syrian food industries have become advanced industries because of their quality and competitive price, and that they reached all the countries of the world and achieved widespread and high demand in the local and foreign markets.

 Russian businessman, Roman Petugin, of the COOP group, representing 158 food companies, said the main objective of the exhibition is to focus on exporting Russian products to Syrian markets, buying Syrian products and exporting them to Russian markets and exchanging information between companies.

 For his part, the Syrian businessman, Abdul Muhaiman al-Omari, Director General of the Al –Muhaiman Institution for Industry and Trade, said that this exhibition is an opportunity to meet and get acquainted directly with foreign companies, and display the products of his institution for the benefit of all.

 The Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Adnan Abu Ragheb, said that there are Syrian good products of high specifications prompted us to visit the exhibition to try to import them to Jordan as well as the exhibition is considered a step to restore Jordanian-Syrian trade relations, which will lead to the flow of Syrian goods to Jordan.

 The opening of the exhibition was attended by Minister of Industry, Mohammad Mazen Yousef, economic and commercial activities and a crowd of interested parties.
