Damascus- with the participation of about 120 national food industrial companies, the Exhibition of Export Food Industries in Syria Food 2019 kicked off on Wednesday at the ground of the Fairs City. The four –day event is held by Damascus Chamber of Industry and the Syrian Exporters Federation in cooperation with the Federation of Chambers of Industry, Commerce and Agriculture.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Abdul-Karim Al-Lahham, explained the importance of the exhibition as a starting point for the producer and consumer and to identify the requirements of foreign markets and to provide a product that competes with specifications to attract new consumers.
Member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus Chamber of Industry, who is the head of the food sector in the Chamber, Talal Qalaji, told SANA that an area of 10,000 square meters was reserved for the exhibition specialized for the major food exporting companies or companies wishing to export aiming at opening new foreign markets or strengthening their presence in their traditional markets. He said that the exhibition is a platform for the marketing and export of food products and access to Arab and European markets.
The head of the Syrian Exporters Federation, Mohammed Al-Sawah, noted that the holding the exhibition in its second year is an evidence of the recovery of the industrial food sector in Syria, whereas the export process last year reached to more than 109 countries.
For his part, the head of the agricultural sector in the Exporters Federation, Iyad Mohammed, said in a similar statement that about 300 businessmen from brotherly and friendly countries and from European countries were invited to visit the exhibition and to learn about the Syrian food products to make agreements and sign export contracts and enhance the existence of the Syrian food product abroad, which is still maintaining its reputation and quality despite the difficulties it faced during the war against Syria.
The opening was attended by a number of presidents and members of the Federation of chambers of industry, trade and agriculture.
Some 85 food industrial companies took part in the first session of the “Syria Food” Exhibition which was held from 10 to 15 May last year.
