Some 120 Businessmen to Take Part in Syrian – Russian Forum in Moscow

Damascus,(St) – The Russian-Syrian Forum will take place on February 27 in Moscow, with the participation of 120 businessmen and representatives of government and private companies from various productive, tourism and service sectors.

The two-day forum is an opportunity to explore partnerships, investment, employment opportunities and private projects in Syria during the reconstruction phase.

The Syrian participation in the forum will be organized by the Syrian-Russian Businessmen Council, which took part in the meetings of the standing committee between Syria and Russia for trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation in Sochi in October.

In a statement to SANA, a member of the joint Syrian-Russian Businessmen council, Amar al-Bardan, said the forum would hold working sessions to discuss cooperation in agriculture, food, trade, construction, reconstruction, industry, transport, energy, tourism and telecommunications.

“The Forum is a real opportunity to launch fruitful cooperation between private companies in Syria and Russia through the establishment of partnerships that promote economic cooperation and tourism investment and in all other areas between the two countries,” Mr. al Bardan said.

He called for enhancing economic, trade and investment cooperation to the level of political relations and expanding cooperation so that “the private sector will have a large share to contribute to the needs of the Syrian economy and its development.”

For his part, member of the Businessmen Council, Samer Aweys, said that the forum will be a vision of cooperation between the two countries. He expected that “Syria will witness a real flow of private capital towards various projects in the field of reconstruction, tourism, communications, transportation, industry and others. “He said.

Mr. Aweys noted that Syrian businessmen have the full willingness to be partners in any projects that are being discussed and agreed upon, stressing that there are important possibilities for Syrian businessmen to establish high-value projects.

The Joint Syrian-Russian Committee on Economic, Commercial and Scientific Cooperation held its tenth session in Sochi and signed the final protocol on October 10.
