DAMASCUS, CAIRO,(ST)_In a telephone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Mouallim, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi expressed thanks for the efforts made by Syrian officials for the release of Iranian pilgrims kidnapped in Syria.
The two sides pointed out latest developments in Syria and aspects pertinent to the political program put forward by President Bashar al-Assad to resolve the crisis.
Al-Mouallim expressed satisfaction over the release of the Iranian pilgrims and considered steps taken in this area as falling in the course of fraternal relations between the two countries, noting the support provided by Iran to Syria in order to develop bilateral .
In another context, Salehi stressed that a solution to the crisis in Syria is on top of the priorities in the region, pointing out that all parties concerned can reach a solution to the crisis as soon as possible , without foreign intervention.
In a statement quoted by the Middle East News Agency Salehi explained that that the aim of his current visit to Egypt is to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and key regional issues , especially the situation in Syria, stressing that the Middle East is able to manage its affairs , and does not need external support.
